Once a mobile clinic has been requested, Village Clinics starts the process by sending out someone to survey the site where the mobile clinic will be held. We scout out the route, review the physical site and structures, collect contact information, assess needs and take photos.
Our team studies several aspects of the requested community in order to determine their specific needs. We check on common things like diet, economy, employment, schools, and accessibility to healthcare. We also research the local spiritual situation to plan for follow-ups and discipleship.
It's important to Village Clinics that we respect the laws of the places where we work and minister. Honduras has rules around "medical brigades" that are meant to protect patients and participants. Although those rules are seldom enforced, we want to do everything we can to Glorify the Father with what we do. Filling out paper-work and honoring our local authorities is one way we can do just that!
Once the mobile clinic is authorized, our team works with all the parties involved to plan and confirm the exact date of the mobile clinic. We coordinate with the mission team leader, if there is a group involved. We check with and confirm dates with our community contacts. We secure the personnel needed for the mobile clinic for that date.
So much goes into pulling off a great mobile clinic! Village Clinics has spent years developing SOPs, training, instructions and processes to help everyone involved to participate in the most efficient and intentional way. We work side-by-side with local pastors, mission team members, community leaders and patients to bring a program that saves lives and gives glory to God.
Just like Jesus healed the physically sick, we love to see and be a part of God’s healing power. But Jesus also healed and worked with people spiritually, sometimes even as His first priority. Village Clinics follow’s Jesus’ example by working with patients both spiritually and physically. Each and every patient leaves our mobile clinics with prayers, an open line of communication to request more prayers, and an invitation to discipleship.
Metrics, data and reports may seem boring to some, but Village Clinics knows the power of these tools for innovation, constant improvement and storytelling. Throughout our mobile clinics, our staff takes pictures and notes to form the story of the event. Reports are sent out to local authorities, our mailing list as well as any stakeholders (e.g. those who requested the mobile clinic). We also send reports and patient contact information to local pastors and community leaders.
Village Clinics believes in long-term Kingdom impact, not a short-term pat on the back. That’s why we are very intentional about following up on the relationships we have built while planning and facilitating mobile clinics. In addition to engaging with patients through prayer requests and ongoing discipleship programs, Village Clinics supports local pastors and leaders with training and tools to share the Gospel. We also maintain ties with donors and community leaders to promote annual mobile clinics that open more doors!
Going to Honduras to do medical missions was one of the greatest things I did during my senior year. I grew leaps and bounts spiritually, but I also got to learn how to calculate blood pressure!
Of all the teams I serve with, the medical clinic days with Village Clinics are some of the most fulfilling. I feel like I grow a little bit more every time I translate for a patient.
I love doing medical brigades with Jimmy and his staff. They always put on such a great, well-organized clinic. Our brigades are always a highlight of the trip and provide stories for months and years later!
